ceremonial-tree-plantingOn Saturday March 10th, 2012 the Clover Ridge District Girl Guides adopted the Sunrise Ridge Park in Surrey. The day was drizzling with rain from start to finish but that didn’t stop our member girls, leaders and family helpers too. With approximately 60 member girls we planted 200 trees in about 3 hours. We did a clean sweep too of the area picking up litter and various debris.
We were honored to have Mayor Dianne Watts join in with a speech and planting of the ceremonial tree. Partnership with the City of Surrey, Friends of the Forest and Lend a Hand programs made this event a success. They donated the planting and cleanup supplies, shrubs and staff and volunteers too. After an orientation session and some educational instruction, we dug holes, planted the trees and covered the ground with mulch. Each participant was even sent home with a Black Hawthorn to plant in their own back yard.
Once we had completed our task we were treated to hot chocolate and doughnuts from Tim Horton’s Clayton store!
